Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions that potential members may have before starting the recruitment process.

Will the chapter have a house?

Theta still owns the historic property that has been Eta Chapter’s since 1917. It has been rented to another campus organization who will continue to live in during the 2025-2026 academic year. Then, the house will undergo renovation with the goal for Thetas to move back in for Fall 2027. We can’t wait for Thetas to once again call 1414 Washtenaw Avenue home!

Are you only recruiting freshmen?

No! Theta is looking to build a well-rounded chapter and that includes women from all academic classes and experiences on campus.

What is the time commitment?

Time commitment depends greatly upon the degree to which a member becomes involved in the chapter. A new member typically devotes around six to eight hours per week to chapter meetings, scholastic programming, social functions, and sisterhood events.

Does Theta have a scholarship program?

Yes! Theta Foundation is proud to award more than $800,000 each year in merit- and need-based scholarships to Thetas for undergraduate and graduate study. Theta Foundation also supports chapters and members with grant funding to participate in non-degree educational, leadership development, and service-learning programs to help them promote the widest influence for good. Learn more about the Foundation’s scholarship and grant programs. This funding cannot be used to support chapter or membership dues.

What happens after graduation?

Membership in Kappa Alpha Theta is much more than just a college experience. Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae offer one another opportunities for continued professional and personal development. Members continue their engagement with Theta after graduation by joining an alumnae group; paying annual alumnae dues to the Fraternity; serving in volunteer roles; donating to Theta Foundation; and staying connected via ThetaConnect, social media, and the Theta Magazine.
